Longing for a break

My nightmare with time machine and external drives

I migrated to OS X Mountain Lion Developer Preview the other day, and generally it is okay, however I found when processing a photo in aperture the other day a big that constantly forces it to crash. With this in mind I figured I was probably best to return to the less liked 10.7.3 and put up with its bugs till a fix came along. What a damned nightmare this has been, I sit here a day later still trying to get myself back to a usable state, which will actually be OS X Mountain Lion as I am damned if I can get myself restored from time machine backups I’d made on a separate drive for 10.7.3, it just fails and the drive them refuses to mount.

I have to say I am so fed up with time machine and USB, the two are just bullshit together, and I just don’t believe Apple WA at to fix the problem as it is something that has existed since Time Machine’s inception in 10.6 Snow Leopard. I’ve ordered today a FireWire 800 based enclosure and will rip out the drive from this shitty maxtor USB external drive and hope this improves things. I am now so glad I bought myself that LaCie Rugged FireWire drive on Sunday, best $200 spent! Also ordered 8GB memory upgrade, can’t wait for that too.

I will be so relieved just to have this nightmare behind me! My choice to try out Mountain Lion has been a stupid one, hopefully there’ll be a new release within a week or two!
