Longing for a break

CASPA on-demand, my arse!

I purchased my TiVo 320GB back in January, and for the most part it has been a great choice. In the past month when renting movies via their CASPA on-demand service I have got to say I am less than impressed. A few weeks ago I decided to wath the animated movie “Up”, paid for it and told it to go ahead with downloading. One hour passed, not started to download. Three hours, still nothing. I ended up contacting their support service via an online form, and eventually it was resolved and the download started. Pro lem has been that they can take up to 24 hours before they respond, hardly good service. Well I decided to watch 2012, its done huge box office dosh, so let’s see what it’s like. I am now over four hours since purchase and it still hasn’t downloaded, or started for that matter.

I don’t know what the problem is, and I don’t really care, but is wish they would just fix it already. A check of the whirlpool forums shows I am not alone in experiencing long delays, so I included this in my complaint via the same form.

Give me my movie rental dammit! May just abandon caspa and hire on iTunes, at least it’s immediate download!

Well it’s now 18 hours since I purchased this rental. Movie, not started downloading. CASPA Support, still not bothered to contact me to resolve the problem. I’ve decided that once my CASPA wallet has expired (not long) I will not continue using it, I’ll use iTunes movie rentals which start downloading instantly. Ironically CASPA on demand is apparently looking to bring additional services soon, seriously bad customer service does not inspire me to look at them one iota

Just sent them an “I’m pissed off” support request. Surely on a Saturday/Sunday requests wouldn’t be that high, or perhaps so many people are NOT getting their purchases they are flat out dealing with complaints!

I also downloaded 2012 and it took forever. What has also annoyed me though is that it’s only 576i quality and secondly, all the subtitles for the non-English language parts were missing, except once when one flashed up on screen for a split second, I framed through to see it, it appeared after a momentarily black screen. A second one came up the same way a bit later.

I must say, I am teh complete opposite, everything has started downloading within minuites of ordering and i can watch instantly, maybe it has somethign to do with ISP’s, I am with vividwireless and as its owned by 7 network (who also own tovo rights in australia) maybe thats why or it could also be because i am on a service of 10mps??

Back when I made the comment something was very wrong with the system, movie/tv rentals just weren’t coming in and I ended up having to ring and complain. Their suggestion was hire a second freebie and it forces the first one through the pipeline. More recently things have gone back to normal and CASPA rentals are coming in as they had when I first purchased my TiVO, thankfully. I still prefer this method of renting movies as it’s much easier than rocking up to Video Ezy and not getting there early enough and missing out on the latest movie release as someone’s beaten you to the last disc.

I have had dramas from the very beginning with attempting to download movies, and this has been ongoing. I attempted to download a movie last night ‘no connection’ even though my computer was turned on and I was receiving emails??????? Have tried again today have attempted to download 3 movies paid and still waiting for the download..that was 2 hours ago and still nothing….not impressed at all…..what to do???????

Anne, their ‘usual’ response is for you to add a ‘freebie’ to the queue like a music video or something likewise and then that usually causes the rest to begin downloading too. I think the CASPA service is just far from reliable, more recently I have used it and it had been working fine, but perhaps if you’re having problems they’ve again reverted to crap mode once more. If you’ve access to do so, use iTunes movie rentals, they’re similarly priced and downloads start straight away. Only thing is can you connect your PC/Mac to the tv, I’m lucky, I can. They have a lot more movies/tv shows for download, and the interface for purchasing these is far faster for finding what you want, the CASPA interface is just the pits, it feels like it’s running on a 56k modem line :( .
