The Destiny is not out of the waters yet, after the crew last week managed to restore the ships air filtration system this week Rush has discovered yet another problem, the ship’s power looks set to run out. Rush, running on the dregs of his own body’s power reserves, exhibits considerable agitation at anyone talking to him. As he struggles to understand what it going on he heads to the mess hall for something to eat, here we see that water rationing is in place as water stores are insufficient for even showers. As Rush eats his meal he begins to vent at the waste of power by the crew examining new systems across the ship, he tells Colonel Young that he believes the Destiny will soon be without power, but he can’t tell when this will happen. As Rush storms out of the mess hall heading back to Destiny’s control room one of the crew again attempts to get his attention, Rush grabs him angrily and throws him against the wall telling him to stay out of his way; Rush storms off once more.
Back at the control terminal Rush is joined by astrophysicist Dale Volker is sent by Colonel Young to assist. As Volker asks what he can do to assist he is told to leave, that Rush neither wants nor needs his help. After much aggravation Volker reluctantly departs advising Colonel Young that Rush refuses his assistance, Young advises him that this was expected and that he was ordered to stay irrespective of what Rush threw at him. Young decides to head to the control room himself and confronts Rush, as Rush angrily reacts Young calls for the medic, soon enough Rush begins to stumble and he collapses.
Rush later awakens in bed with medic Tamara Johansen sitting on his bed, he asks what has happened and is told he lost consciousness and has been out for 10 hours. Despite discouragement of his returning to the control room he heads out, certainly far less aggravated than before. Power on the Destiny is lost, there are no reserves, and the ship is has exited hyperspace and is headed for a blue gas giant. The crew investigates Eli’s suggestion of using the shuttle’s power to power Destiny and are seen monitoring the Destiny’s trajectory, they pass through the planet’s atmosphere using the planet’s gravity to hopefully steer them towards a planet they’ve discovered with an atmosphere that supports life. As they are flung using the planet’s gravity they realise they’ve miscalculated, instead of heading towards the planet they are now heading towards a sun. Hope they’ve got some solar panels installed!
