‘Tracker’ starts with McKay preparing to go off world on his day off, on a humanitarian mission with Dr Keller.  Whilst preparing Sheppard drops by briefly just to check that what he’s heard wasn’t just rumour, he leaves only slightly shocked.  McKay joins Dr Keller in the gate room, but discovers that Ronin is also along for the mission, you can see his disappointment.

Dr Keller is going off-world to provide medical services to a village, whilst treating a patient Ronin and McKay are asked to give the patient some privacy, they decided to go an scout the village.  An hour later Ronin and McKay still haven’t heard from Dr Keller and decide to return to the house they left her at, upon their arrival they discover she’d already left and was making her way to the pub, at which she did not arrive.

We join Dr Keller out in the forrest where her hands are bound and her questions of her captor threaten to see her stunned once more.  She quickly learns to quieten up.  Dr Keller is brought to her feet and both now set off deeper into the forrest, after some hours walking the Doc asks for a few minutes rest but it is a request that is quickly dismissed.  Ronin and Rodney are now searching for the Doc within the forrest on the outskirts of the village, soon after Ronin advises Rodney that he’s found some tracks.  Rodney suggests that they should return to the gate and get a search party, Ronin agrees but says he will continue tracking whilst Rodney dials Atlantis.

Rodney arrives at the gate and is just about to dial Atlantis when the gate activates, he only has moments to hide in the surrounding trees before several Wraith hunters arrive and begin their search of the forrest.  Rodney makes the fatal mistake of treading on a branch and attracts the attention of one of the hunters, a chase ensues.  Whilst running through the forrest trying to evade the hunter Rodney calls through to Ronin to advise of the situation.  After some time Rodney hides behind a tree stump and believes he has evaded his hunter, upon standing he quickly learns running would have been smarter.  A fight between the hunter and Rodney almost ends with Rodney being killed, he is fortunate that Ronin finds him and kills the hunter.

Dr Keller decides to make a run for it, and is quickly caught by her captor, and summarily stunned as a reward.  As she awakens from being stunned a Wraith hunter comes upon them, it is then that Dr Keller discovers how it was that she was captured so easily, her captor posseses a portable teleportation device which he uses with great skill to avoid, and dispatch his Wraiter pursuers.  We now know he is a Runner, as Ronin had once been.    The Wraith hunter’s body is hidden and they again set off, Dr Keller tells him of another Runner that her predecessor, Dr Beckett, succesfully freed by removing his tracker, and that if they can return to Atlantis she would assist him with his tracking device.

Ronin and Rodney arrive at the location where Dr Keller’s captor dispatched the Wraith hunter, there’s two sets of tracks leading in different directions, Ronin favours one, Rodney the other.  Rodney begins walking his path but Ronin stops him quickly and using a stick shows Rodney why his path was not a good choice, it lead to a pit with spiked rollers designed to leave an unlucky victim looking more like Swiss cheese.  Rodney agrees quickly that Ronin’s path must be the way, Ronin is sure now that they are tracking a Runner.

As they continue their journey into the forrest the Doc offers to use her scanner to locate her captors tracking device, which he reluctantly agrees to do.  Dr Keller performs a scan and locates the device just below the neck, unfortunately the good news ends there when she informs him that his device is different to Ronin’s and its removal would end in his death as it was entwined in his spine and the base of his brain stem.  Dr Keller’s captor elludes now to the fact that he has a patient for her to treat and that he couldn’t take the chance that she wouldn’t offer her help.  They arrive at a cave at night, one that is well shielded to prevent detection, it is here that Dr Keller is shown her patient, a young girl with possibly life threatening injuries threatening to turn her blood septic.

Whilst attempting to treat her patient she informs her captor that she is too ill to treat with the medications she’s brought to the planet and that they must get her back to Atlantis to ensure her recovery.  Eventually the girl awakens and Dr Keller is told that her captor’s name is Kiryk, and that despite his outward bravado he’s actually caring and kind.  Dr Keller goes outside to talk to Kiryk but is unable to find him, he then teleports in and they begin to talk, he tells her of the fact that the Wraith followed him to this girls village where they killed everyone, she was the sole survivor.  As they talk several Wraith come upon them, using his tracking device to discover his location, he manages to dispatch two but the third manages to stun him.  At that point the girl makes a sound in the cave and the Wraith hunter discovers her and gets ready to feed upon her, not if Dr Keller has any say on the matter, she thrusts a sword into his back killing him.

We next join Dr Keller in a small clearing where she has dragged the girl and Kiryk.  Kiryk, now awakened from his being stunned, is told by Dr Keller of her idea that they use her defib device to shock the tracking device, thus neutralising it.  The Doc is stunned by how quickly he agrees to this treatment, despite the probability of his dying from the procedure.  Kiryk lays down on the grass and the Doc shocks him, killing him.  Dr Keller immediately beings CPR and after a shot of adrenalin he is revived.  A scan of his device revealing that his tracking device has been neturalised, something Ronin and Rodney confirm when their Wraith tracker arm band suddenly loses his signal.

With the device now neutralised the Wraith raiders begin patrolling the skies searching for him.  Dr Keller, the girl and Gerrick continue their trek and are quickly found by Ronin and Rodney.  Ronin runs in and a fight between he and Gerrick quickly gets serious, a death is only averted by Dr Keller intervening.  As the group now treks towards the stargate they see from above that the gate is heavily guarded by Wraith guards and hunters.  The teleportation device, rendered unusable after Kiryk was shocked, is fixed by Rodney and Kiryk uses this to great measure in dispatching the guards surrounding the gate.  Kiryk dials another gate and the Wraith quickly pursue leaving the gate unguarded for the Atlantis team to return home.

Back on Atlantis the young girl is successfully treated by the Doc and well on her way to recovery.  Rodney decides to talk to Ronin and demands to know his intentions towards the Doc, intially Ronin says that he has none, but then decides that perhaps he does.  Ronin equally asks the same of Rodney who declares his definite intentions towards the Doc, and may the better man win.

Another great episode, perhaps not as good as ep 8 ‘The Queen’, but quite good despite.
